WHAT IS POLYLACTIC ACID?

Polylactic acid (PLA) is bioplastic derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcanes. It was actually discovered as early as the 19th century but only recently has it grown in popularity due to its enviro-friendly properties.
Because PLA is biodegradable, this bioplastic is extremely useful for producing items such as disposable food packaging and tableware. Unlike standard corn starch bioplastic, PLA can produce items with a totally clear finish identical to traditional plastics.
Initially PLA resin was very expensive in the market compared to high volume non-degradable plastic resins. However, significant increase in demand for PLA and other degradable resins has seen prices drop dramatically over recent times.
